Masood Alam: A Cultural Fusionist In Pakistan's Music Industry

 .

Masood Alam's works provide one-of-a-kind musical experiences.

Music is widely considered the most ubiquitous among all art mediums. It is an art form that communicates thoughts and emotions in profound ways through the attributes of cadence, syncopation, harmonization, and tone. It symbolizes self-expansion, belonging, and perception. Music's beauty can only be justified by a real artist who has a great passion for it and Masood Alam is one such example whose passion and destiny led him in the music world.

Alam, who grew up in Karachi's outskirts, never created music only if he had anything to express.  He never replicated his expression; he never overstayed his welcome. No two of his compositions are the same; each one produces its own dimension. In music like the Second Symphony, he represents his emotions to us in a pure and powerful manner.

As a promising young music producer, composer, and songwriter, Alam’s melodic creativity is breathtaking, his harmonic accent is delicate and instantly recognized, and his art is rich but never overwhelming. He has the ability to make his listeners feel as though he is speaking directly to them.

As an inspiring musician who gave up a comfortable life to pursue his passion for music, Masood Alam has worked for free on most days of his career in Pakistan’s music world. He got his big break when PTV asked him to create music for one of their transmissions "123 Check" for which he received widespread praise. Alam unwillingly toiled day and night from studio to studio and created 76 compositions in a year, which is beyond most Pakistani musicians' imaginations.

The 123 Check successfully highlighted the sonata form of many musical genres spanning from well-known Pakistani pop beats, acoustic renditions, contemporary western and local ballads. This contributes to improving the unforgettable experience for music enthusiasts.

Masood Alam recently founded a music foundry, which has helped other composers, musicians, and vocalists construct a music institution and shape their careers. This foundry has produced a lot of melodious music for Pakistan's most popular brands and musicians. His cause is continuously growing and blooming.

Review: Ali Sethi's Chandni Raat Is An Emotional Treat For Music Lovers

.

Ali Sethi’s latest song Chandni Raat is a deep song that takes out the treasure chest of recollections for those people who have to face the distress of longing.

Directed by Sarmad Khoosat and Awais Gohar, Chandni Raat has been composed using only three conventional instruments. These includes the violin, horn and piano which is almost 130 years old. The important thing to note is that musicians have not used any digital instrument.

Produced in Los Angeles by Grammy-winning musician Noah Georgeson (‘Narcos’ OST), this Urdu ghazal builds upon a famous ‘sher’ or couplet from the late Saifuddin Saif:

Chandni Raat badi der ke baad aayi hai
Lab be ik baat badi der ke baad aayi hai

(It’s a Moonlit Night after all
I wish to tell you something after all)

Lahore-based lyricist Shakeel Sohail added the remaining lyrics and give it a more deep meaning.

The music video shows a glass house with broken windows that portrays depressing atmosphere. One can see many stranded characters waiting inside it with their luggage. Just before the end of the video, all people come together while sharing the peace, unity and the gloominess changes in to light. Reaching to find each other for comfort, support, kindness, these characters shows solidarity.

If you are a keen watcher, you will definitely relate these characters with diverse segments of Pakistan’s society. All people have their own personal stories that echo the ghazal’s classic themes of Wasl (Union) and Firaaq (Separation).

“I trained in ghazal singing for many years, and one of the things I noticed was how lightly people had begun to take the genre. Young people think a ghazal is a sad love poem! Actually the great ghazals are full of powerful messages — about love, war, God, social justice — that go all the way back to the Sufis.”

"Chandni Raat is actually talking about the emotions through a beautiful music. The music video has already received a great deal of praise from Pakistan as well as India’s audiences, who have interpreted it as a call for togetherness and peace in a time of conflict.

Review - Farhan Saeed's Maula Failed To Impress Music Fans

.

Farhan Saeed, one of the founders of boy-band Jal and the leading actor of Suno Chanda, has released several musical hits for his fans. Pee Jaon, Thori Der and the recent success of a political anthem Ab Sirf Imran Khan, Saeed has proved that he can ploy different styles for his singing passion. However, actor-singer Saeed’s recent track Maula in collaboration with British-Indian music producer Rishi Rich, somehow failed to impress the music lovers.

He not only composed the song but also acted in the Maula video. The lyrics and vocals complement each other pretty well. Although Saeed did his job honestly with lots of hard work in this track, it the music where Maula actually fails to touch the standard. This the reason it seems as a pressed collaboration mostly done just for the sake of a teamwork.

The romance, club lavish scenes, glitzy attires and loving aspect of a couple, there is nothing unique in the video theme. One cannot pick what the director of video is trying to convey, as it is odd editing that makes this video more peculiar. The ending part with Saeed appearing alive, showing his love and cop-cars with their lights on in the background is not attractive at all.

Watch the video here,

The Maula’s video has been shot in London, England. The location selection is good but it is the blurred message that remains unclear till end and make spectator confused. There would be numerous topics that can be targeted in this video but the message didn’t work well and one will continue to think what was they (the team) was trying to say to audience.
