Pakistan's First Ever Film Festival To Be Held In New York

Pakistan’s first ever Film Festival is going to be held in New York in the first week of December. The festival will screen some of the best films including Oscar nominated “Mah-e-Meer”. 

The other films will include Dobara Phir Se, Lahore Say Aagey, Actor in law, Academy award winner Sharmeen Obaid’s animated film 3 Bahadur, Dukhtar, Dance Kahani and Ho Mann Jahaan.

The Pakistan Film Festival is the result of the continuous efforts of Dr. Maleeha Lodhi, the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to UN. The aim of the event is to promote the local industry and soft image of the country among the Ambassadors and Representatives accredited to UN. The top lot of Pakistan’s film industry and media persons will also attend the event.

Frieha Altaf, the CEO of Catwalk Event Management & Productions who is handling the PR of the two day festival, said, “The Pakistan film festival 2016 will bring in a selection of some of the finest films coming out of the Pakistan Film industry after decades of its struggle and revolution. There is already a great buzz in New York for the event.”

The Pakistan Film Festival is part of Catwalk Event Management and Dr. Maleeha Lodhi’s continuous struggle to present country’s art, literature as well as all kind of cultural activities; reflecting the prominent features of the nation. 

The previous work in this regard includes Pakistan Festival London 2007, the street parade at Regent Street- London was followed by a festival in Trafalgar Square. It was attended  by Pakistan’s famous designers, singers, actors and sportsmen. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 launch in 2015 at Lincoln Centre, New York was also the work of Dr. Lodhi and Frieha Altaf.

Mein Hero Is A Journey Of Finding A Hero Within Oneself

Mein Hero (I am a hero) is an initiative for the youth of Pakistan. It took 8 months, 3 schools, 750 participants and over 200 plus hours to develop “Hero” storylines by combining narratives, values, problem solutions and story writing skills of students to understand local issues and importance of individual actions.

The selected inspirational stories have been converted into comic books and adapted as theatre plays. These will also broadcast via radio in future. It is also converted in a short documentary.

The initiative is taken by AzCorp Entertainment, a for-profit social enterprise, to celebrate and enable unsung heroes of Pakistan, who represent the true spirit of a hero by making a positive change in their respective communities.

The vision is to relate heroes through thought provoking dialogues, critical thinking, social consciousness and positive approach. It provided meaningful and entertaining storytelling comprising of civics, social justice and gender equality based themes.

The ceremony held at NAPA was a token of appreciation from participants to unsung heroes like Mahnoor Baloch who runs her own driving school and Sohail Khan who runs a school with free education to poor children. It included the launch of small teasers of their journey and role for the benefit of community.

Along with this the ceremony also staged a play, written and performed by the participants from three partnered schools in Liyari, Shireen Jinnah Colony and Malir. The theatre play gave message about inter-faith harmony, multiculturalism, challenges faced by the communities and taking ownership of social problems.

It blended well with our combination skin and gave a good coverage even with a very small quantity. It means, that a single jar is enough for a couple of months. Its non-greasy formula is the best thing we admire most about it. The cream has good absorbency quality without any sticky or oily effect.

One more thing that we would like to especially mention here is its refreshing fragrance. It is not very strong, yet it still uplifts your mood with the mild flowery fragrance.

Review - Fair & Lovely BB Foundation + Fairness Cream

Last week we came across a small Fair & Lovely stall in a shopping mall. The representative girls asked us to try a new product by the same brand. They showed us the Fair & Lovely BB cream. The price was so cheap that it tempted us badly and we instantly decided to buy it.

We used this BB cream for few days and today we will share our review about it. Let's have a look at the brand's claim.

The Brand Claims:

New fair & Lovely BB cream is an expert product that brings together foundation and advanced multi-vitamin fairness cream, for instant fair look, coverage of dark spots and blemishes. It evens skin tone and gives sun protection because of its SPF 15. It has a matte and non-oily feel.

Packaging:

The packaging is a small tidy tube with a white color cap. Due to its small size, it can be labelled as travel friendly. You can even carry it in your shoulder handbag without any problem. It doesn’t leak in my bag, so I can say that it is safe to carry it in your bag.

It contains 18 gm of Fair & Lovely BB foundation + fairness cream.

Our Verdict:

This BB cream gives natural look with non-oily effect. The texture is neither very thick nor thin, and due to this balanced consistency it gives a nice smooth look. The texture is awesome to hide skin blemishes and dark spots. The foundation + fairness BB cream provides sun protection because of the presence of sunscreens SPF 15. There is a specific strong smell or fragrance like some fruity thing with a touch of a rose.

The fair & Lovely BB cream has matte finish and upon applying with finger tips, it gives an even blended look without shine. The matte formula is not very favorable for dry skin tone as it is not helpful in moisturizing the dry skin. However, for normal to oily skin, it is a good combination BB cream.

There are no shade options available in this BB cream. The only one shade available is workable for medium complexion. Its shade looks extra whitish on dark skin types, while for fair ones; this nude shade BB cream is a little bit darker.

It is a product that can be suitable for women who love to have non-oily textured BB cream with strong fragrance. It will be highly suitable for them. But, for those women who like to have some extra moisturizing effect, will not like it to use it. 

However, for normal / combination skin, the non-greasy effect and long lasting moisturising effect can be very helpful in the winter weather.

Rating:

This is our first ever experience with any Fair & Lovely product. We can conclude our review with these words that some women would love to use this Fair & Lovely BB Cream while there will be some women who would be hesitant to use it because of its single shade with matte formula.

It can be said that it is tricky product with a complex results depending on user’s experience. For combination skin, Fair & Lovely BB cream is a nice option.

Recipe - Chicken Jalfrezi

Jalfrezi is a delicious gravy that mostly cooked with a variety of ingredients. You can add different vegetables and cheese to make a dish of your choice.

It can be cooked only with vegetables but you can also add meat in it. Chicken, fish and prawns are some of the most favorite meat that can be added in Jalfrezi.

I usually follow my own recipe to make jalfrezi. But, today, I cooked Chicken Jalfrezi for my family with a Mehran Recipe Mix. This is my first time to use a recipe packet for making Jalfrezi.

If you say, what would be my review of this Mehran Jalfrezi Spice Packet. My review will that this Mehran Recipe Mix is very simple to follow. The taste is simply great and me and my family loved it.

So, let's start our recipe.

Ingredients:

Chicken 750 gms
Tomatoes 5
Onion 2
Capsicum 2
Green Chillies 3-4
Yogurt 1/2 cup
Ginger 1 tbsp
Ginger Paste 1 tbsp
Garlic 1 tbsp
Lemon Juice
Vinegar 1-2 tbsp
Oil 3-4 cup
Mehran Jalfrezi Recipe Mix 1 packet

Method:

Blend 3 tomatoes with 1 onion and keep it aside.

Mix 4 tbsp Mehran Jalfrezi Recipe Mix in Chicken with yogurt. Marinate it for 20 minutes.

Mix rest of the spice mix in vegetable. Keep it aside.

Heat Oil, add blended tomatoes, onion mixture in it. Fry for few minutes.

Add ginger and garlic paste. fry it well.

Add Chicken and vinegar in it and fry for 3 minutes.

Now cover it and let it cook till chicken becomes tender and oil comes up.

Now add ginger julienne, vegetables and green chillies.

Cook for 2-3 minutes.

Squeeze lemon juice. Mix and remove.

Serve with boiled rice.

Lifebuoy Broke Guinness World Record On 9th Global Hand-Washing Day

Lifebuoy broke the Guinness World Record of Most Number of Double High-Fives in relay in 60 seconds on  the 9th Global Hand washing Day (GHD) together with famous celebrities and 20,000 participants. It  was the biggest GHD event in Pakistan.

Global Hand washing Day is an annual awareness day celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide. It aims to put the spotlight on hand washing with soap as a lifesaving habit.

Through this initiative, Lifebuoy will save many precious lives, as each high five will lead to teaching 5 kids the act of hand washing. Lifebuoy aims to save more and more lives this way under the ‘help a child reach 5’ platform.

Hand washing with soap is one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce preventable diseases like diarrhoea and pneumonia – the main causes of child mortality. Millions of parents across the world do not have the same privilege often because of a simple lack of hygiene awareness. Hand washing with soap is a simple action, but one that can make a big difference.

Cornetto Pop Rock Presents Ye Zindagi By Noori

Cornetto Pop Rock announced the launch of sixth and final music video YE ZINDAGI, performed by Noori. The song is written by Ali Hamza.

The video is produced by the Frame Collective and directed by Aleena Naghman with Hamza Yousaf as Director of Photography. The song features a refreshing rock music and style, the reminiscent of Noori.

Talking about the video, lead vocalist and guitarist of band Noori, Ali Noor said that the setting of the video and the locations used depict the lighter side of life amidst the struggle for aims and ambitions.

“Ali Hamza wrote the song about the fact that despite all the hurdles one faces, life has to move on. Regardless of the twists and turns that keep changing the pace of life we must ensure that our focus is on the prime objective of living life to the fullest; to discover things in life, explore one’s capabilities and to learn and re-learn from our mistakes.”

The rock maestro also said that he thoroughly enjoyed being a part of Cornetto Pop Rock Season 1, created by BodyBeat Events & PR and Empact Activations, as he believed the platform can help revive the country’s music industry. 

“It was a great experience working with Cornetto Pop Rock. The platform has a lot to offer to the music industry and certainly has a bright future. One thing that I appreciated throughout the campaign was the level autonomy that we had while working on the songs, which allowed us to apply our ideas and concepts. While on the other hand there was a lot that we learned during the process.
