President Arif Alvi Applauded CSR Initiatives of OICCI Memebers In Pakistan

President Dr Arif Alvi who was the chief guest at CSR exhibition titled, “Impactful Journey: OICCI CSR Exhibition”, highlighted the need of creating greater awareness about fighting the new challenges of climate change. He urged country’s corporate sector to play more useful role in this regard.

Dr Arif Alvi was addressing the members of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) at an Exhibition of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) at a local hotel. He further added,

 “It is great to learn about the huge impact of foreign investors in social uplift across the country and about their efforts to improve the lives of our fellow countrymen, the ones who are not as privileged as others.”


The President appreciates the role of OICCI members for social change in Pakistan, “it is important that the private sector joins hands with the government to develop the marginalized communities of the country and in this respect I am thankful to the OICCI member companies who have demonstrated their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility projects that are helping our communities”.

He told audience that government is taking strong measures to create an improved environment for business community that would result in more investment in the country.


The president referred to the newest World Bank report that listed Pakistan among the top 20 well performing economies. He pressed the country’s corporate sector predominantly the overseas investors to support and contribute in the government’s efforts for bringing social change by meeting the challenges such as health, education, malnutrition.


President of OICCI Shazia Syed while addressing the participants remarked that OICCI member companies are committed for the improvement of the communities in Pakistan. She highlighted the ‘OICCI Women’ initiative, launched in 2017, which aims to bring all the OICCI members under one umbrella in order to make concerted efforts to achieve inclusion and diversity. The ‘OICCI Women Empowerment Awards’ was launched in 2018 to recognize the top performing OICCI members.

Syed also mentioned that OICCI members, during the last one year alone, have collectively invested over Rs5.5 billion to create a positive impact on the lives of 58 million people across the country.


She also extended full support from OICCI platform to the government on its “Say No to Plastic” initiative since it’s a long journey to overcome the threats of plastic to the environment. Syed also informed the audience that CSR activities were spread all over the Pakistan with 32% of the CSR activities focused in Sindh, 27% in Punjab, 15% in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 10% in Baluchistan, and another 16% in FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

Secretary General OICCI, M. Abdul Aleem, highlighted “Our member companies have contributed to social services, in the field of education, healthcare, community development, environment and infrastructure development.”
